The common claim vs. the evidence

What’s commonly claimed, and what the evidence supports

Top-ranking answers either lump Kirkland dish soap into the Huish/Sun Products/Henkel story told about Kirkland laundry detergent or admit the maker is undisclosed (one shopping blog guesses Kutol Products; Reddit threads guess Dawn's maker P&G). Costco's own posted safety data sheet settles it: Kirkland Signature Ultra Shine dish soap is manufactured by KIK International, per the manufacturer address on the SDS revision Costco has posted since January 2024. Henkel did sell a retailer-brands dishwash business to First Quality in April 2025, but no evidence ties that unit to this KIK-made product.

Evidence & sources

Each source is graded on the six-tier evidence rubric, where tier 1 is strongest. Sources are archived, so a citation still works if the original page moves or goes behind a paywall.

Tier 4 Costco Wholesale (customer-service SDS library) Safety Data Sheet - Kirkland Signature Ultra Shine Platinum Performance Dishwashing Liquid Fresh Scent 90 fl oz (item 1789130) Published January 19, 2024 · accessed September 21, 2026

The SDS Costco posts on its own customer-service site for the 90 fl oz fresh-scent Ultra Shine dishwashing liquid lists 'Manufacturer Address: KIK International LLC, 1725 North Brown Road, Lawrenceville, GA 30043' alongside Costco as supplier of the data sheet, an explicit manufacturer naming for this exact product, in Costco's own posted disclosure, current as of the 2026-07-05 access date. KIK International (headquartered in Concord, Ontario) is one of North America's largest private-label household-chemicals manufacturers.

Tier 4 Costco Wholesale (customer-service SDS library) Safety Data Sheet - Kirkland Signature Ultra Shine Platinum Blue Dishwashing Liquid Fresh Scent 90 fl oz (item 1684499) Published November 1, 2022 · accessed September 21, 2026

Context for how recent the disclosure is: the prior-generation SDS for the same 90 fl oz fresh-scent dishwashing liquid (revision 2022-11-01) lists only 'Supplier Address: Costco Wholesale Corporation' with no manufacturer field. The KIK manufacturer address first appears in the January 2024 revision, i.e., the naming is Costco's own current, deliberate disclosure, not a leak or a stale document.

Frequently asked

Who makes Kirkland Ultra Shine dish soap?

Kirkland Signature Ultra Shine Liquid Dish Soap is manufactured by KIK International, per the safety data sheet posted in Costco's own customer-service SDS library (revision dated January 19, 2024, and still posted as of July 2026). KIK International, headquartered in Concord, Ontario, is one of North America's largest private-label household-chemicals manufacturers; the SDS lists its Lawrenceville, Georgia address.

Is Kirkland dish soap the same as Dawn?

No. Dawn is a Procter & Gamble product, while Kirkland Ultra Shine is manufactured by KIK International, per the SDS Costco posts for it. The two come from different companies, and no public source documents the formulas as related; the 90 oz Dawn Platinum sold at Costco is simply the name-brand product Kirkland Ultra Shine competes with.

Is Kirkland dish soap made by the same company as Kirkland laundry detergent?

Possibly for some SKUs, but the trails differ. KIK International (the dish soap's manufacturer per Costco's posted SDS) was also named as supplier on a 2020 SDS for the lavender variant of Kirkland Ultra Clean liquid laundry detergent, so KIK has appeared in both categories. The laundry pacs, though, carry a direct Henkel Corporation naming (2024 SDS), and that Henkel business passed to First Quality Enterprises in April 2025. Costco demonstrably splits its household-chemical SKUs across multiple manufacturers.
