The common claim
What’s commonly claimed, and what the evidence supports
Top-ranking answers uniformly say "Duracell," and the evidence supports it, but every one traces back to the single 2016 Jelinek interview; no tier 1–3 record or more recent executive statement independently confirms the relationship (CPSC recall sweep July 4, 2026: no Kirkland alkaline-battery recall naming a maker), though no credible evidence of a change has surfaced through mid-2026.
Evidence & sources
Each source is graded on the six-tier evidence rubric, where tier 1 is strongest. Sources are archived, so a citation still works if the original page moves or goes behind a paywall.
Tier 4
"He also told Clark that Duracell makes Kirkland Signature batteries" — then-CEO Craig Jelinek, interviewed by Clark Howard; the only direct executive statement on record naming the manufacturer.
Tier 6
States "Kirkland batteries sold at Costco stores and online are made by Duracell" (U.S.-market plants: LaGrange GA, Cleveland TN) — derivative of the 2016 Jelinek interview, no independent evidence; included only to document that reporting as of Feb 2026 still names Duracell with no sign of a change.
