The common claim
What’s commonly claimed, and what the evidence supports
Top-ranking answers name Ito En as the maker of Kirkland Signature green tea, and here the popular answer is correct because the product is an explicit co-brand: it is sold as 'Kirkland Ito En Matcha Blend Japanese Green Tea,' the Ito En brand is printed on the front of the box, and each bag blends Ito En's sencha leaves with matcha powder. Ito En, Japan's leading green-tea company, is the manufacturer.
Evidence & sources
Each source is graded on the six-tier evidence rubric, where tier 1 is strongest. Sources are archived, so a citation still works if the original page moves or goes behind a paywall.
Tier 4
Retail listing for the co-branded product, sold as "Kirkland Ito En Matcha Blend Japanese Green Tea"; the Ito En co-brand is part of the product's own on-pack name, the same on-label co-brand pattern that resolves Kirkland's Ocean Spray cranberry juice. Archived snapshot title reads verbatim "Kirkland Ito En Matcha Blend Japanese Green Tea-200 ct 1.5g tea bags"; the page carries the Ito En name (19 mentions) and the sencha/matcha blend description throughout.
Tier 6
"...a collaboration with the popular Japanese tea brand Ito En. The bags contain a mix of sencha and matcha teas." Tier-6 food-media corroboration of the tier-4 on-pack Ito En co-brand; describes Ito En as Japan's number-one producer of canned and bottled green teas. Mashed (2026-04-12) independently reports the Ito En brand is printed "at the top corner of the front of the packaging."
