The common claim vs. the evidence

What’s commonly claimed, and what the evidence supports

Nearly all top-ranking answers say Diamond Pet Foods makes Kirkland cat food, and for the dry formulas the consensus is supported — Costco's own pet-food FAQ covers all Kirkland Signature dry foods, and the FDA's 2012 recall notice named two Kirkland cat formulas (Maintenance Cat Chicken & Rice, Healthy Weight Cat) among Diamond's recalled products. Note this page covers the dry food only; the canned/wet Kirkland cat food is a separate product with its own supply chain.

Each source is graded on the six-tier evidence rubric, where tier 1 is strongest. Sources are archived, so a citation still works if the original page moves or goes behind a paywall.

Tier 2 U.S. Food and Drug Administration UPDATED: CORRECT PRODUCTION CODE INFORMATION — Diamond Pet Foods Expands Voluntary Recall of Dry Pet Food Due to Potential Salmonella Contamination Published May 5, 2012 · accessed September 21, 2026

FDA recall notice names two Kirkland cat formulas among the Diamond Pet Foods products recalled from its Gaston, S.C. plant: 'Kirkland Signature Super Premium Maintenance Cat Chicken & Rice Formula' and 'Kirkland Signature Super Premium Healthy Weight Cat Formula' — direct co-packer naming for the dry cat food specifically, but it evidences 2012, not the present; URL is FDA's official archive-it copy of the retired fda.gov page.
